Why Is Jeremy Doku Not Playing for Belgium vs Iran?

Belgium will aim for a dominant performance as they take on Iran in a Group G match. With all the teams tied at one point each, a win here for the European nation should be enough for them to qualify for the next round.

The Red Devils played out a disappointing draw against Egypt despite being heavy favorites leading to the match.

Meanwhile Iran too settled for a 2-2 draw in their first match against New Zealand and have the perfect opportunity to prove that they can put a challenge against any top team.

Another disappointment for Belgium head coach, Rudi Garcia was news involving Jeremy Doku. The Manchester City winger played 86 minutes of the match against Egypt but later it was announced that he would not feature against Iran.

Why is Jeremy Doku Not Playing Against Iran?

This comes amid criticism Doku had received after expressing his desire to leave the United States to be present for the birth of his first child in England.

As per reports, Doku traveled to the World Cup battling a cold and after suffering a respiratory infection, medical staff deemed it too risky to play him tonight.

Royal Belgian Football Association's sporting director Vincent Mannaert stated:

"It is better to let him rest now and then work towards the final group match against New Zealand."

When will Doku Return?

The 24-year-old is expected to return to action on June 26, for their final World Cup group stage match against New Zealand.
