Mariners' Dom Canzone leaves game with hamstring injury

The injury hits just continue for the Mariners.

Right fielder Dom Canzone, one of the club's most productive hitters, became the latest casualty Sunday when he was pulled from the game in the sixth inning because of a hamstring injury.

Canzone grounded out softly to shortstop to drive in Julio Rodríguez from third base to extend the Mariners' lead to 3-1.

As he sprinted through first base, Canzone grabbed the back of his right leg. He spoke briefly with head trainer Kyle Torgerson and then immediately headed back to the home clubhouse.

Luke Raley took over for Canzone in right field.

Canzone downplayed the injury after the game. He appeared to be moving well enough in the clubhouse and he will travel with the team to start a series in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

I'll be all right, he said.

Canzone drove in the Mariners' first run in the second inning when he hit an opposite-field home run off Boston left-hander Payton Tolle. It was Canzone's 12th homer of the season and first against a left-handed pitcher.

In the top of the sixth, Canzone made the defensive play of the game when he made a full-extension diving catch coming in on a line drive, taking a hit away from Ceddanne Rafaela and then threw out Nate Eaton at second base for an inning-ending 9-6 double play.

Arozarena nearing return

Randy Arozarena (left hamstring strain) ran the bases pregame Sunday and appears to be nearing a return from the 10-day injured list.

The Mariners' All-Star left fielder is eligible to be activated Tuesday, when the M's open a three-game series in Pittsburgh.

The club will wait to see how Arozarena responds physically Monday and Tuesday before deciding on any roster moves.

New sparkle for Naylor

For his first Father's Day as a dad, M's first baseman Josh Naylor wore a pair of custom Jordan 1 cleats, a gift from his wife, Chantel.

The cleats, designed by Stadium Custom Kicks, featured 5,000 individually hand-placed crystals.

An avid sneakerhead, Naylor owns more than 80 pairs of custom cleats, and he's been known to give away pairs to fans at games.
