Vote now for The News Tribune’s 2025-26 high school girls team of the year

Vote now for The News Tribune’s high school girls team of the year across all seasons from the 2025-26 school year. Voting will remain open until noon Monday.

The poll is located below. You can read about all of the candidates and their accomplishments below.

Annie Wright basketball — Gators (21-7) took home the fourth-place trophy at the Class 1A state tournament last winter and knocked off rival Bellevue Christian four times, handing the Vikings their first losses to a 1A Nisqually opponent since 2022. Senior guard Aaliyeh Martin and sophomore guard Camille Bates combined for 712 points entering the state bracket at the Yakima Valley SunDome (March 4-7).

Bellarmine Prep tennis — Lions trio (Anya Moravek, Chloe Lee, Rose Jackson) secured a runner-up finish at the Class 4A state tournament from May 22-23 in Vancouver.

Curtis volleyball — Vikings finished runner-up at the Class 4A state tournament last fall, boasting four TNT All-Area first-team selections (Selana Morales, Kayla Baker, Elaina Duong, Kathryn Harris). Curtis finished 25-3, claiming 4A SPSL and District 3/4 titles.

Gig Harbor golf — Tides secured a runner-up finish at the Class 3A state tournament at Deer Park Golf Club from May 19-20. Freshman Olivia Snyder carded rounds of 73-72 for a T5 individual finish, followed by Kaliya Ikei (9th, 76-72), Myla Louch (12th, 74-78), Layna Louch (T15, 77-77), and Sofia Skogen (T25, 81-79).

Graham-Kapowsin softball — Eagles (27-2) soared to the second-place trophy at the Class 4A state tournament in Richland from May 22-23. No. 1 Graham-Kapowsin shut down No. 16 Juanita, No. 9 Tahoma, and No. 4 Richland before falling to No. 2 Skyline in the championship game. TNT All-Area Player of the Year and Gatorade Washington Softball Player of the Year Brooklyn Pettit dominated the circle for the 4A SPSL champions, going 24-1 with a 0.71 ERA and 317 strikeouts — all while batting .545 with 14 home runs and 45 RBI at the plate.

Kennedy Catholic basketball — No. 11 Lancers (21-8) knocked off No. 6 Lake Washington for third place at the Class 4A state tournament inside the Tacoma Dome on March 7. TNT All-Area point guard Jayden Fitzgerald (14.9 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 4.1 APG, 4.4 SPG) directed the Cinderella-like run, stacking state wins over No. 14 Redmond, No. 3 Chiawana, No. 5 Gonzaga Prep and the sixth-seeded Kangaroos.

Kentwood golf — Conquerors finished runner-up at the Class 4A state tournament at The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie (The Links) in Lacey from May 19-20. Junior Avery Peterson carded consecutive rounds of 72 for a third-place individual finish, followed by Kallie Phon (T16, 75-79), Zoie Pathammavong-Sakda (19th, 80-76), Isabelle Nguyen (T42, 85-82), and Cora Nguyen (68th, 101-94).

Lincoln flag football — Abes captured the state’s inaugural Class 3A flag football title, defeating Seattle Prep, 21-14, in February’s championship game at Federal Way High School. After an 0-2 start, Lincoln finished the season on a 21-game winning streak. QB Teuaililo Time led the state with an estimated 98 touchdown passes.

North Thurston volleyball — Rams (28-1) stormed to their first state title in program history, sweeping No. 2 Mount Spokane in the championship game as the top seed in the Class 3A bracket last November. TNT All-Area Player of the Year and 3A State Tournament MVP Addy Conner piled 534 kills, 190 digs, 28 blocks and 24 aces for the league, district, and state champions.

Sumner basketball — Spartans (27-5) finished runner-up at the Class 4A state tournament for a second-straight season at the Tacoma Dome. No. 8 Sumner knocked off No. 9 Auburn, No. 2 Union, and No. 6 Lake Washington before falling to top-seeded Davis in the championship game on March 7. Junior guard Kawehi Borden, the 4A SPSL North MVP and two-time TNT All-Area selection, averaged 16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and three assists per game.

Tahoma soccer — Bears (20-2-1) finished runner-up at the Class 4A state tournament in Puyallup last fall. Tahoma captured the District 3/4 title and piled state wins over No. 15 Richland, No. 7 Woodinville, and No. 3 Skyview before falling to Mount Si in the Nov. 22 championship. Senior forward Elizabeth Wiggs, senior defender Kate Spangler, and sophomore defender Ryenn Lyman earned first-team all-NPSL honors.

Tahoma softball — Bears (25-4-1) grabbed the fourth-place trophy at the Class 4A state tournament in Richland, adding to their undefeated 4A NPSL title. TNT All-Area pitcher Alexa Ramirez broke the school’s single-season strikeout record (209 K) for the third time in as many years — posting 19 wins and a 2.26 ERA — and TNT All-Area outfielder Mia Hammington scored a team-high 47 runs with a .605 batting average.

White River basketball — A nearly two-decade stretch of dominance continued in Buckley, where the Hornets have reached the state’s “Sweet 16” every year since 2008-09. White River (21-7) beat Evergreen for the state’s Class 3A fourth-place trophy, led by two-time TNT All-Area guard Maggee Schmitz (21 PPG, 7 RPG, 5 APG, 3 SPG).
