Tracking local golfers on the PGA Tour

This week: RSM Classic, through Sunday, Sea Island Resort Seaside and Plantations Courses, Sea Island, Georgia

In the field: Olympia’s Andres Gonzales, Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley and University Place’s Michael Putnam.

Second-round scores: Stanley shot a 3-under-par 67 at Seaside; Gonzales shot 1-under 71 at Plantation; and Putnam scored 1-over 71 at Seaside.

Position: Stanley (9-under 133) is in fourth, and Gonzales (3-under 139) is tied for 53rd — all trailing leader Kevin Chappell (11-under 131). Putnam (1-over 143) missed the cut.

Recap: Stanley is squarely in the hunt for his second career PGA Tour title. His two front-nine birdies at the fifth and ninth holes were set up by short-iron approach shots that were inside 10 feet — including a 7-foot putt at No. 9. Then at the 10th hole, the Bellarmine Prep product rolled in a 26-footer for a third birdie. He was at 10-under for the tournament before his lone bogey at No. 16 (approach shot in greenside bunker). “All in all, it was pretty windy today, and I felt I did a pretty good job of controlling my golf ball,” Stanley said. … Gonzales had an ugly start (three bogeys in his first six holes), but he rallied with three back-nine birdies — including an up-and down out of the greenside bunker at the par-5 eighth hole. … Five bogeys sealed Putnam’s exit into the offseason. He will likely play another eight to 10 PGA Tour tournaments next season part time.

Tee times Saturday: Gonzales at 6 a.m. (PST) off Seaside No. 10, and Stanley at 7:50 a.m. off Seaside No. 1.
