Tracking locals on the PGA Tour for May 22
This week: AT&T Byron Nelson, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Four Seasons Resort, Irving, Texas.
In the field: Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley and Olympia’s Andres Gonzales.
Fourth-round scores: 3-under-par 67 (Stanley and Gonzales).
Position: Gonzales (8-under 272) tied for 34th, and Stanley (7-under 272) tied for 41st — all behind winner Sergio Garcia (15-under 265).
Recap: Three rounds of 67 in a row for Gonzales, who posted his second-best finish of the season behind his effort a few weeks ago at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, when he tied for 15th. The last time the Capital High School graduate posted at least three consecutive rounds in the 60s was in late 2014 at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba (69-67-66-67). His round Sunday was bogey-free, making birdies at two par-5 holes (No. 7, No. 16) and also the ninth hole (9-iron approach to 4 feet). … Playing two groups ahead of Gonzales, Stanley finished strong with four birdies on his final holes, including three in a row (Nos. 10-12). The first two were set up by great wedge play — a wedge approach from the fairway at the 10th hole (4 feet), and a sand-bunker blast at the drivable, par-4 11th hole (6 feet).
Next: Stanley is the only local for next week’s Dean & DeLuca Invitational starting Thursday at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
