National top 25, Pac-12 rankings

National top 25

1. Ohio State: Spin move now more effective for Braxton Miller than in Madden.

2. Alabama: Vegas favors Tide by a touchdown vs. Ole Miss at home.

3. Michigan State: Early win over a top 15 team (Oregon) should be rewarded.

4. TCU: SMU this week is second of four consecutive opponents from Texas.

5. USC: Give Trojans sportsmanship points for scoring only 59 against Idaho.

6. Baylor: Gave up 31 points to Lamar? Not a great look, even if Bears won by five scores.

8. Florida State: Had a little more trouble with USF than expected.

9. UCLA: Bruins hope game this week vs. BYU doesn’t come down to last play.

10. Notre Dame: First game without injured QB Malik Zaire is tough one: Georgia Tech.

11. Clemson: Playing at Louisville just five days after beating Appalachian State.

12. Georgia Tech: America needs a triple-option team in the College Football Playoff.

13. Oklahoma: Sooners did a strange thing last week: played road game vs. SEC team.

14. Texas A&M: Standout defensive end Daeshon Hall once committed to UW.

15. Oregon: Ducks’ fortunes hinge on Vernon Adam’s possibly broken finger.

16. LSU: Consecutive ranked SEC West showdowns (Mississippi State, Auburn).

17. Mississippi: Top-scoring team in the nation through two games (74.5 ppg).

18. BYU: Hail, hail. Cougars’ prayers were answered again.

19. Utah: Solid wins by Utes over Michigan, Utah State say: “Don’t forget about us.”

20. Auburn: Could lose at LSU and still not receive as much grief as after close call vs. Jacksonville State.

21. Northwestern: Oddly intriguing smart-school matchup at Duke this week.

22. Missouri: Allowing only 3.01 yards per play so far.

23. Arizona: Crucial in-state battle this week vs. Northern Arizona.

24. Wisconsin: Balancing opener vs. Alabama with games vs. Miami (Ohio), Troy, Hawaii.

25. Temple: Why not?

Pac-12 rankings

1. Southern California: Trojans might actually need Cody Kessler for full game against Stanford.

2. UCLA: Josh Rosen had off-day at UNLV, so Bruins won by only 34.

3. Oregon: Had plenty of chances to win in East Lansing.

4. Utah: Utes’ defense will have to be particularly stout, now that QB Travis Wilson is hurt.

5. Arizona: Wildcats should lobby Cupcake Royale to sponsor nonconference schedule.

6. California: Have to like Bears’ chances at Texas this week after thumping of SDSU.

7. Arizona State: Todd Graham-coached teams shouldn’t struggly to beat Cal Poly.

8. Stanford: Tough test for Cardinal’s offense at USC.

9. Washington: Young players (Jake Browning, Myles Gaskin) showed promise in easy win over Sac State.

10. Colorado: Blowout win over UMass was confidence boost for struggling Buffaloes.

11. Washington State: Now, Portland State and Rutgers need to play each other.

12. Oregon State: Looks like Year 1 in Corvallis could be a long one for Gary Andersen.
