After leading the league in scoring throughout the regular season, senior guard Andrew Andrews became the first Washington Huskies player since 2012 to earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors when the conference announced its annual awards on Monday.

Andrews, a fifth-year senior from Portland, Oregon, was voted to the 10-player first team by the league’s coaches. Through 30 games, he’s averaging a league-best 21.2 points – the most ever by a UW player under coach Lorenzo Romar – to go along with 4.7 assists and 5.8 rebounds.

He capped the regular season on Wednesday by scoring a career-best 47 points in a 99-91 victory over Washington State. That scoring total ranks second in UW single-game history behind the 49 points scored by Bob Houbregs on Jan. 10, 1953 against Idaho.

Andrews is the first UW player to make the All-Pac-12 first team since Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten in 2012.

“I think in my mind, there’s still a long way to go,” Andrews said. “Just got to keep working. (I) respect all the accolades and press I’ve been getting, but like I said, (we’ve) still got a long way to go, so I’m not going to try and think too much of it right now.”

UW freshman guard Dejounte Murray, a Seattle native who averages 15.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists, was named to the five-player All-Pac-12 second team as well as the five-player All-Freshmen team. Murray also ranks second in the conference in steals at 1.8 per game.

“It’s definitely a blessing, and shows that hard work pays off,” Murray said. “I’m honored to be one of those dudes on the second team and making the freshmen team and my play being noticed.”

Another Husky, freshman forward Marquese Chriss, was named an honorable mention to the All-Freshmen team after averaging 12.8 points and 5.1 rebounds this season.

Junior forward Malik Dime, the Pac-12’s second-leading shot-blocker at 2.7 blocks per game, was named an honorable mention to the five-player All-Defensive team. Romar seemed somewhat irked that he wasn’t included among the league’s top five players in that category.

“I thought Malik Dime had a heck of a year, defensively,” Romar said. “I could go on and on, but I’m proud that our guys are recognized in the way that they were. It’s good. Especially with most of these guys being back, I would say for these guys, good start.”

Josh Hawkinson, a junior forward for Washington State, was named honorable mention all-conference and was the only Cougars player included among the honorees. He led WSU with 15.6 points per game and led the league in rebounding with an average of 11.0.

The conference’s Player of the Year award went to Utah forward Jakob Poeltl, who led the Utes to a second-place finish by averaging 17.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. League-champion Oregon coach Dana Altman won Coach of the Year. California forward Jaylen Brown won Freshman of the Year. Oregon State guard Gary Payton II won Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Colorado guard George King won the league’s Most Improved Player award, and Utah guard Brandon Taylor was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
