Huskies signee Markelle Fultz selected as McDonald’s All-American

The accolades continue to accumulate for Huskies men’s basketball signee Markelle Fultz.

On Sunday night, Fultz, the 5-star guard from DeMatha Catholic, was named to the East roster for the 2016 McDonald’s All-American game. Only four other UW players under coach Lorenzo Romar have earned that honor -- Nigel Williams-Goss, Abdul Gaddy, Spencer Hawes and Jon Brockman were the first four, in addition to Martell Webster, who signed with the Huskies but declared for the NBA draft instead of playing in college.

The game will be held March 30 at the United Center in Chicago.

Fultz is ESPN’s No. 12-ranked prospect in the 2016 class. He signed with UW in November, choosing the Huskies over finalists Kentucky, Louisville and Arizona, and will join the team for the 2016-17 season. Fultz was also selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic on April 15 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and will play with the USA Basketball Junior National Team at the Nike Hoop Summit on April 9 in Portland.

The 6-foot-4 guard was also named MVP of the Les Schwab Invitational in December after leading DeMatha to a second-place finish.
