UW hoops: Incoming freshman guard Carlos Johnson (Findlay Prep) signs paperwork to play for Huskies
The Washington Huskies needed to add another guard to their roster in the wake of Dejounte Murray’s departure, and it appears they found one.
The school announced on Thursday that Carlos Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 220 pound guard from Oakland, California, who played last season at Findlay Prep, signed scholarship papers earlier this week to play for the Huskies. He joins star point guard Markelle Fultz and New Zealand center Sam Timmins in UW’s incoming 2016 recruiting class.

“We’re very thrilled to have Carlos Johnson at Washington,” UW coach Lorenzo Romar said in a statement. “He is a fierce competitor and is an extremely gifted athlete that can play multiple positions on the perimeter. He really has a passion for the game of basketball and is the type of player that’s going to raise the level of everyone in practices and in games. We’re fortunate to have him join our program.”
Rated a 3-star prospect by Scout.com, Johnson averaged 15 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for Findlay last season, according to UW’s official release announcing his signing. He spent his junior season at El Cerrito High School in California, and spent his sophomore season at Shadow Mountain High in Phoenix.
“I am very excited to be heading to Washington and can’t wait to get on the court with my brothers,” Johnson said in a statement. “Coach Romar has a great reputation for developing his players, and I can’t wait to continue to grow as a player and person.”
Johnson originally committed to UNLV (and apparently signed scholarship papers of some kind), but announced in mid-April that he was re-opening his recruitment amid UNLV’s coaching tumult. This time around, he was also considering Oregon State and Boise State.
