Auburn Riverside 3, Kennedy Catholic 0: Think the Ravens are planning a return trip to the 3A state title this year?
In their second top-10 matchup in three days, they got their second consecutive sweep with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-21 victory over defending 3A state champion Kennedy Catholic.
Calley Heilborn led the Ravens with 16 kills, 14 digs and three aces.
Kennedy ended Auburn Riverside’s season last year with a five-set victory in the 3A state semifinals before going on to win the state title. The Ravens won the 3A state title in 2014, but now both schools are in the 4A North Puget Sound League.
Auburn Riverside entered as the fifth-ranked school in the Class 4A rankings by the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association. Kennedy Catholic was ranked sixth.
Ciera Zimmerman added 23 assists and 12 digs for Auburn Riverside. Clarice Buchanan had 14 digs.
The win came two nights after the Ravens beat Tahoma, 3-0. Tahoma was ranked third by the coaches association.
Charles Wright 3, Cascade Christian 1: Despite losing the first set, Abbie Jackson rallied the Tarriers back to beat the Cougars, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-19.
Jackson had a team-high 18 kills, 15 digs and eight blocks, and Alli Knowles added a team-high 30 assists.
Nicole Kelly and Ruby Joy contributed eight kills and seven kills, respectively
Puyallup 3, Emerald Ridge 0: Anna Saelens had a team-high 27 assists as the Vikings defeated the Cougars in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-19.
Kaitlyn Sugay was able to put away the most of Saelen’s assists with 10 kills, and Sophia Beamish added nine kills. Tot Utley was effective on the serve with three aces.
Taylor Templeman led Emerald Ridge with nine kills, and Ella Litterell had eight kills.
The Jaguars, who reached the 4A state-title match last year, have started the season with five consecutive losses — to Tahoma, Tumwater, Kentwood, Auburn Riverside and Puyallup.
Auburn 3, Hazen 1: Celine Liulalmaga led the Trojans, recording 24 assists and five aces in the 25-7, 19-25, 25-20, 25-16 win.
Also helping Auburn was Leana Liu, who put up eight kills and 13 digs, along with Rebekah Thareek, who had five blocks.
Auburn Mountainview 3, Kent-Meridian 0: The Lions are hoping to make their ninth trip to the 4A state tournament in the last 10 years.
And with more strong performances from Boise State commit Kiley Lewis, they very well could do so.
Lewis finished her night with 28 kills, six digs and four aces to help sweep the Royals, 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 in 4A NPSL play.
Casey Davenport chipped in with 37 assists, seven digs and three kills for the seventh-ranked Lions.
Mount Rainier 3, Jefferson 0: Alyssa DeBiase had nine aces to lead the Rams to a 25-9, 25-16, 25-12 victory over the Raiders in a 4A NPSL crossover match.
Maddie Emery had a team-high nine kills for Mount Rainier and added five digs and three aces. Anna Hardy had a team-best 13 assists.
Annie Wright 3, Eastside Prep 0: The Panthers were unable to fight back against a powerful performance by Annie Wright, which won in straight sets, 25-3, 25-5, 25-6.
Led by Annika Cederstrand, who had a team-high 10 kills, the Gators never let Eastside Prep get more than six points in a set.
Britnie Casillas had 20 assists, setting up teammates Abbey Turner (six kills), Lauren Leeden (six kills) and Molly Bryant (four kills).
