First- and second-team selections for The News Tribune’s 2026 All-Area boys soccer team.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Lucas Morgan, Sumner, sr. — Anchored the back line for the 4A SPSL champions and led Sumner to the Class 4A state championship game, a run that included a 3-1 win over top-seeded Stadium in the quarterfinals. Sumner beat Lewis and Clark, Stadium and Newport before falling to Eastmont in the title game. Morgan, who scored five goals, had an assist and was integral in nine Sumner clean sheets. His soccer IQ and distributing ability out of the back gave Sumner the freedom and ability to send numbers forward in the attack. Seattle Pacific commit.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Craig Johnson, Sumner — Coached the Spartans to a 16-5-1 record, the 4A South Puget Sound League title and all the way to the 4A state championship game, a run that included a 3-1 win over top-seeded Stadium in the quarterfinals. In its three state tournament wins, Sumner outscored opponents 9-3. The runner-up finish was the best in program history.
FORWARDS
Abraham Cooper, Stadium, jr. — The big target up front commanded attention from defenders all season, especially on set pieces, in which Cooper was a constant aerial threat. Scored 14 goals and had six assists. 4A NPSL first-team selection.
Eli Hanson, Gig Harbor, jr. — An expert in hold-up play, Hanson was the target up top for the Tides. Double teams didn’t slow down the team captain and 3A PSL Narrows offensive MVP, who netted 23 goals and had 18 assists.
Fisher Jarzynka, Stadium, jr. — Perhaps the most dynamic player in the area with the ball at his feet, Jarzynka’s creativity on the ball and pace made him a matchup nightmare on the flanks. The 4A NPSL player of the year tallied 12 goals and six assists for the Tigers. UW commit.
Gavin Murphy, Sumner, sr. — Missed a chunk of the season due to transfer rules, but torched opponents consistently once he put on the Sumner jersey. The 4A SPSL offensive player of the year showcased his elite finishing ability for the runner-up Spartans, scoring 12 goals and adding nine assists.
Hayden Wilbur, Fife, sr. — The 2A SPSL MVP netted goals left and right this spring, leading Fife to 2A state tournament quarterfinals. TCC commit scored a scorching 28 goals and had 16 assists, a versatile player who played up top and also in the midfield. Praised by multiple coaches for his relentless workrate.
MIDFIELDERS
Jaden Annan, Capital, jr. — 3A PSL Nisqually Co-MVP was selfless in possession and diligent on defense, notching 17 goals and six assists. “Coachable… never late to practice, always willing to do whatever was asked,” head coach Jeremy Richtmyre said. “Just a great kid with a bright future.”
Henry Blake, Gig Harbor, sr. — A unanimous selection for 3A PSL Narrows Co-MVP, Blake’s blend of size, strength and speed lifted Gig Harbor to the third-place trophy at the Class 3A state tournament. Team captain tallied 16 goals and nine assists for the 3A District 3 champions. “The total player,” Tides head coach Joe Ross said. “Extremely technical with the ball at his feet.”
Braylon Bowie, Puyallup, sr. — 4A SPSL first-team selection totaled 11 goals and six assists for Puyallup’s state-tournament team. Head coach Matt White: “Braylon’s athleticism unbalances opposition defenders. His first step is quicker than anyone.”
Caden Grant, Silas, sr. — 3A PSL Narrows Co-MVP headlined the most decorated senior class in school history, guiding Silas to a state quarterfinals appearance and program-record 18 wins. TCC commit tallied 20 goals and 12 assists.
Jack Luxenberg, Stadium, sr. — 4A NPSL first-team selection was a constant threat at Stadium Bowl, posting 15 goals and 10 assists for the District 3/4 champions. Two-year team captain.
Aiden Vannoy, Sumner, sr. — The heartbeat of Sumner’s state runner-up squad created for teammates from box to box, helping post nine shutouts with two goals and three assists. Three-time 4A SPSL first-teamer “led by example and was impossible to take off the field,” head coach Craig Johnson said. Two-time TNT All-Area selection.
DEFENDERS
Elliott Arvidson, Olympia, jr. — 4A SPSL first-team selection headlined a lockdown Bears defense that posted 11 shutouts from one of the state’s deepest leagues. “Had speed and toughness, playing through many injuries to lead (us) back to state again,” head coach Ty Johnson said. Team captain.
Asa Chamberlin, Silas, sr. — 3A PSL Narrows first-team selection played every minute of every game, directing a back line that conceded nine total goals in league play and posted 10 shutouts. Silas recorded the most wins in school history (18) in 2026 and won four league titles in as many years.
Vinny Miles, Rogers, jr. — Always in control with the ball at his feet, the 4A SPSL first-team selection tallied four goals and four assists for the Rams this spring. Three-time all-league selection and three-year starter in Puyallup. “Timing on tackles and ability to read the game is next level,” head coach JR Farias said.
Jacob Patten, Fife, sr. — 2A SPSL Defensive Player of the Year allowed the fewest goals among league defenders this spring, helping the Trojans to a runner-up District 3 finish and state tournament appearance. TCC commit.
Quinn Richardson, Curtis, sr. — 4A SPSL first-team selection powered the Vikings to eight shutouts this spring, adding one goal and two assists.
GOALKEEPER
Aiden Zawilski, Silas, sr. — 3A PSL Narrows Defensive MVP posted 10 clean sheets for Silas’ state quarterfinals squad, a crucial piece of the program’s decorated senior class. Whitman commit tallied one goal and two assists.
