Prep roundup: Puyallup, Rogers tussle in volleyball but Vikings come out on top

A volleyball rivalry is good thing to have.

It intensifies the game, it makes the athletes fight that much harder and in the end, to the victor go the spoils, or in this case, bragging rights.

That was the situation between the Rogers Rams and Puyallup as the Vikings earned the victory 25-20, 25-23, 19-25, 25-11 on their home court Monday.

"We always tussle each other," said Puyallup head coach Tony Batinovich. "It was a good rivalry match like we always have."

The Vikings jumped out to a two set lead before Rogers was able to take one back to force a fourth set. That's when things really went Puyallup’s way.

Kaitlin Sugai's nine kills and nine aces led Puyallup, while Sophia Beamish contributed 10 kills, Anna Saelens had 30 assists and Jordan Hunter finished with 16 digs.

Kent-Meridian 3, Kentridge 1: Diana and Eugena Faamausili were all over the court for the Royals as they combined for 13 kills, 35 assists and five aces in Kent-Meridian’s win over the Chargers.

Charles Wright 3, Seattle Christian 1: After only losing their seventh set of the season, the Tarriers remain undefeated with a win over Warriors. Charles Wright’s Abbie Jackson led with 22 kills, four digs and one block with Lauren Meadowcroft chipping in 31 assists and seven aces.

Curtis 3, Gig Harbor 0: The Vikings secured the shutout on the road behind Elly McEachern's 18 kills, 14 dig and one block performance over the Tides.

Bethel 3, Spanaway Lake 0: Kyla Morgan racked up 14 digs and 14 kills with KatieLynn Pyles adding 15 digs and seven kills in the Braves blanking of the Sentinels.
