Columbia River holds on for wild 60-55 win over Capital

Columbia River quarterback Garrett McKee scored on a keeper with 1:06 to play, capping a wild scoring spree in a Class 3A state qualifying round football game.

McKee threw for 491 yards and six touchdowns, including four to Alex McGarry, who caught 12 passes for 309 yards, and the Chieftains beat the Cougars, 60-55.

Capital’s Willie Broxton Jr. rushed for 253 yards and three touchdowns.

The game was tied at 34 at the half.

Columbia River scored the first three touchdowns of the second half.

Capital, though, scored three TDs in a row to take a 55-54 lead with 3:37 to play.

The Chieftains would hang on and get the last score to advance to the state playoffs. Columbia River (6-4) will host Juanita (8-2) next week, date and time to be determined.
