Shawna Johnson leads Bethel bowlers to victory

BOWLING

The Bethel High School bowling team squeaked out a 3-2 victory over Graham-Kapowsin on Thursday.

The Braves took the first two games against the Eagles, 779 pins to 760 in the first, and 902 pins to 772 in thesecond. However, the Eagles came back to tie the match in the baker games.

The performance by the Braves’ Shawna Johnson was the ultimate tiebreaker as her 380 total pins helped earn the victory.

Curtis 3, Emerald Ridge 2: The Vikings’ Alexia Rawls rolled a match-high 393 pins, and her effort led to a Curtis victory at Narrows Plaza.

Jefferson 3, Spanaway Lake 2: The Raiders earned a road win behind Kaitlyn Larimore’s 352-pin effort.

Central Kitsap 5, Wilson 2: The Cougars ran away with the victory as Jasmine Cleuris knocked over a total of 382 pins and the team combined for 1,936 pins.

Mount Tahoma 6, Stadium 1: A team effort was key for the T-Birds as Wendy Barajas led the way with 278 pins.

BOYS SWIMMING

Peninsula earned a 110-76 victory over visiting Sumner as Austin Small took over the meet on Thursday.

Small won in four events, including the 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and relays of the same distances. Dirk Mishko was on the relay teams with Small, and won the 50 freestyle as well.

Wilson 114, Capital 66: The Rams made a splash behind Sam Sachs, who won three events.

Mount Tahoma 100, Lincoln 44: Dino Dizon won in four events, including the 200 medley and free relays, the 100 butterfly and 200 IM, to push the T-Birds to victory.

Steilacoom 117, River Ridge 50: The Sentinels’ Steven Froehle won in four events, three of which were freestyle races.

Gig Harbor 129, Timberline 56: Dawson Allen had three winning events — two relays and a backstroke heat — to help the Tides secure the road victory.

WRESTLING

The North Thurston Rams notched their first win of the season by defeating the Capital Cougars, 54-30, in a 3A Narrows League matchup.

The Rams won nine of 12 events, seven by pins. North Thurston’s Chance Brogan started the night off by pinning Nick Davis during the first round.

The Rams will travel to River Ridge High School on Saturday to participate in the River Ridge Rumble.
