Timberline’s Mikayla Jarvis finished 20th at the Class 4A state girls bowling championships Friday at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place.

For some, that might not seem all that impressive. But consider:

▪ It was her first trip to the state tournament.

▪ Midway through her six games, she ripped up her right hand on a shot — and it immediately swelled up.

▪ The injury forced her to an alternate shot routine.

Through it all, Jarvis still totaled 1,025 pins in her six games for the school’s best showing since Brooke Collins placed eighth at the 3A/2A tournament in 2014.

“I am happy with what I did,” Jarvis said. “I had an OK score.”

Jarvis started with games of 161, 217 and 171 to linger just outside the contenders. The 4A title was won by Eastmont’s Cheyanne Greening (1,279 pins).

Somewhere in the fourth game, the ball came out of Jarvis’ hand awkwardly.

“It felt like my tendons were ripping,” she said.

So to get the right-to-left movement on her ball going down the lane, Jarvis said instead she had to rotate her arms and “just drop the ball.”

“You just hope it goes where you want it to,” Jarvis said.

After a fourth-game 133, Jarvis rallied for finishing games of 179 and 164.

“I did what I could with my limitations,” Jarvis said. “It hurt a lot.”

In the Class 3A/2A tournament, North Thurston’s Larissa Sharwark improved on her showing from last year’s event. Placing 21st a season ago, she was 16th on Friday with a 1,045.

Sharwark said she suffered through a mid-day lull right before the lunch break.

“I kind of let myself slow down.” Sharwark said. “I got really tired.”

Her best game came right after lunch — a 225.

Black Hills’ Kim Perry finished 21st at 1,013, with a high game of 203 in the fourth game. Capital’s Madi Hawkins placed 31st at 938.
