Prep roundup: Federal Way baseball downs Kentlake, 13-2
BASEBALL
Decatur 8, Kentwood 7: It took Decatur (1-3) until the bottom of the seventh to score their first run, but once they did, the floodgates opened The Golden Gators scored eight runs in the final inning to defeat the Conquerors 8-7.
J.V. Magruder led the way for Decatur, finishing the day 2 for 4 with two runs batted in.
Despite the loss, Kentwood’s (3-1) Jordan Jones delivered a masterful performance on the mound, as he retired 11 batters and gave up just three hits through six complete innings.
Federal Way 13, Kentlake 2: The Eagles scored 10 of their 13 runs between the fourth and seventh innings and improved to 2-1 on the season with the victory.
Mt. Rainier 4, Kent-Meridian 1: Austin Procter and Jack Williams accounted for three of the Rams’ runs batted in, as well as three of their team’s six hits, as the Rainers defeated the Royals, 4-1.
Cesar Saldivar went 2 for 3 and drove in the Royals’ (1-4) sole run of the game.
Rogers 12, Yelm 4: The Rams drove in seven runs through the first two innings, and added five more in the fourth as they cruised to a 12-4 victory over the Tornados.
Jacob Stone led the way for Rogers (2-3), as he went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs. Senior Daylon Mathews went 1 for 2 and drove in two RBIs for the Tornados.
Tahoma 2, Rogers 0: Bears pitcher Logan Fewkes put together a solid outing Tuesday, as he struck out eight Rams and only gave up four hits through five innings. The Bears (4-1) scored two runs in the second inning, which ended up being the difference.
Timberline 4, Bellarmine Prep 0: Lucas Reid went 2 for 3 and drove in a run for the Blazers (3-2) , who scored three in the first and tacked on one more in the seventh en route to a 4-0 shutout of the Lions.
Todd Beamer 5, Kentridge 3: The Titans used a two-run sixth inning to break a late-game tie and improve to 3-0 on the season. Justin Siminek got the win for Titans and both Bryce Allen and Ethan Phelps drove in a run for Todd Beamer.
Wilson 4, Shelton 3: The Rams drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as they notched a come from behind victory in the process.
Evan Barker got the win for the Rams. He went 3 2/3 innings, struck out one batter and gave up just one earned run.
River Ridge 5, Steilacoom 4: The Hawks were able to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and notched their first victory of the season. The Hawks had been leading for the entire game before the Sentinels drove in two runs in the top of the seventh and took a 4-3 lead.
Braden Anderson got the win for the Hawks.
Tumwater 2, Mark Morris 2: Keenan Milligan went 4-4 for and accounted for both of the Thunderbirds runs, as Tumwater tied Mark Morris 2-2 on Tuesday.
Eatonville 7, Tenino 3: Colin Striech led the way for Eatonville, as he struck out nine batters and gave up just one run over five innings, and the Cruisers defeated the Beavers, 7-3.
After getting down 3-1 after the first innning, the Beavers were able to tie the game, 3-3, at the bottom of the third. However, the Cruisers responded by scoring the final four runs of the game. A.J. Goets led the way for Eatonville at the plate, as he went 1 for 2 with a two-run home run.
SOFTBALL
Todd Beamer 13, Kentlake 3: The Titans scored 10 runs in the first three innings against the Falcons to rout them by double digits Tuesday night. Jourdin Hering went 3 for 5 and recorded 4 RBIs for the Titans, and Kenzie Palmer pitched in with two RBIs and four runs after going 3 of 4 from the plate.
Rogers 15, Curtis 2: Jessica O’Toole went the distance for the Rams, pitching all five innings and striking out seven Vikings along the way. After entering the second inning tied at one, the Rams exploded at the plate, scoring seven runs.
Curtis could not find the answer and gave up another five runs during the third. Senior outfielder Sasha Killings went 2 for 4, recorded five RBIs and a home run for the Rams. Kelsey Breer also batted in four RBIs and managed to record two triples during the 13-point victory.
Federal Way 18, Decatur 1: The Eagles closed the first inning out by scoring 11 of their 18 total runs. Junior Tally Thomas went 3 for 4 and drove in 5 RBIs and two runs. Jessica Kuhn went 4 for 4 and batted in 5 RBIs for Federal Way.
Jaclyn Gillis was the winning pitcher for the Eagles as she pitched all five innings. She gave up six hits and struck out five Gators in the win. Sydney Victor was the only spark for the Golden Gators offensively as she went 3-3 and scored their only run of the game during the first inning.
Kentwood 8, Mount Rainier 4: Lagi Palaita got the win for the Conks. She pitched seven innings, gave up two hits and struck out nine. Kentwood was able to go the distance with the Rams outscoring them 5-1 in the final six innings to get the win.
TENNIS
Mount Rainier 4, Kentwood 1: Sam Tate only dropped one game during her singles match against Mount Rainier’s Alezis Kongmanivong. Tate won the first set, 6-1, and then shut Kongmanivong out during the second (6-0).
Jefferson 4, Curtis 1: Ally Peterson dropped her first set against Vikings but came back and won two straight sets to get the victory over Jamie Tran, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. The Vikings were able to walk away with one match victory as they took the final doubles match, 6-4, 6-4.
Auburn Mountainview 5, Peninsula 0: Victoria Bolshakova blanked Sasha Mayer in the first singles match on Tuesday afternoon. She defeated Mayer 6-0, 6-2 in the opening round of the 5-0 blowout.
Charles Wright Academy 5, Vashon 0: Alexis Schorno took the first singles match over Vashon, winning 6-1, 6-3. Jenny Soel took the second singles match for the Tarriers, defeating Lizzy Maciejewski 3-6, 6-1, 12-10.
