Federal Way’s rally falls short against Kentwood, 4-3

Kentwood 4, Federal Way 3: The Eagles made a run in the final inning, but were unable to get past the Conks in a 4A SPSL matchup Thursday.
Kentwood scored two runs in the opening inning and padded its lead with another two in the sixth.
The Eagles scored three runs in their last at-bat, but couldn’t get the equalizer.
Isaac Hegamin scored two runs for Kentwood and went 2 for 3. Shane McGuire had an RBI and scored two runs.
Dawson Bakker led the Eagles in their comeback, going 1 for 3, driving in two runs and scoring a run.
Steilacoom 4, River Ridge 2: Jeremy Appling earned his first win of the season in front of a home crowd. Appling pitched six innings and gave up three hits and two runs.
Steilacoom scored three unanswered runs during the third inning. Brennen Postal went 3 for 3 with a single, a double and a triple. J.J. Lemming was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Sentinels.
Jefferson 6, Kentridge 3: Avery Cantino-Kennedy picked up the win for the Raiders. He pitched five innings, struck out three and gave up all three Chargers runs.
Sophomore Darnel Calugay went 1 for 2 and had two RBIs for the Raiders.
Wilson 9, Bethel 1: The Rams rolled on the road by scoring four runs in the first inning. Alex Motonaga went 2 for 3 and had a team-high three RBIs for the Rams. Noah Hill also chipped in two RBIs and scored two runs.
Kentlake 10, Mount Rainier 4: The Falcons exploded in the second inning, scoring seven runs.
Junior outfielder Jayke Chavez went 3 for 5 and had two RBIs. Luke Wilson also had two RBIs.
Mount Rainier’s Nick Dammeier went 2 for 2 and scored two runs.
Boys golf
Bellarmine Prep 62, Central Kitsap 16: On a rainy day, B.J. Manke from Bellarmine Prep shot a 38, three over par, as the Lions defeated the Cougars.
Gig Harbor 43, Lincoln 1: Matthew Halsan and Daniel Laning both shot a 43, seven over par, as the Tides took down the Abes.
North Thurston 36, Yelm 16: Gunner Nelson shot a 42, six over par, at the Golf Club at Hawks Prairie, as the Rams defeated the Tornadoes.
Olympia 68 (15), Capital 68 (18): Eric Hagen from Capital shot a 36, one over par, at the Olympia Capital Club. Despite Hagen’s performance, the Bears escaped with a narrow victory as they knocked off the Cougars in a one-hole shootout.
Shelton 41, South Kitsap 56: Drew Halill shot a 34, two under par, as the Highclimbers defeated the Wolves.
Stadium 43, Mount Tahoma 14: Josh Handerg shot a 39, three over par, as the Tigers defeated the Thunderbirds at Meadow Park.
Timberline 59, Wilson 29: Nick White and Curtis Hitchings led the way for the Blazers, both shot a 39, three over par, as Timberline knocked off the Rams.
Girls golf
Black Hills 61, Yelm 49, North Thurston 37: Elle Hirotaka scored 20 points for the Wolves as her team knocked off the Tornados and Rams.
Gig Harbor 114, Lincoln 12: Maddie Prigge and Annie Hansen both shot 47, 10 over par, as the Tides cruised past the Abes at the Allenmore Golf Course.
Olympia 87, Capital 71: Claire Moon shot a 43, 7 over par, as the Bears defeated the Cougars.
South Kitsap 92, Shelton 56: Brielle Smith shot a 47, 11 over par, as the Wolves knocked off the Tigers.
Stadium 74, Mount Tahoma 10: Megan Esger and Melanie Stengard led the way for the Tigers as they both shot 44, eight over par.
Timberline 31, Wilson 16: Paige Mellum shot a 59, 23 over par, as the Blazers defeated the Rams.
Boys soccer
Eatonville 1, Montesano 0: The Cruisers’ Nick Scheir found the back of the net in the 57th minute. Cruisers goalkeeper Casey Silcox recorded seven saves.
Gig Harbor 6, Yelm 0: Shawn Kimble scored two goals in a four-minute span (40th minute and 44th minute) to give the Tides a 3-0 lead. . Goalkeepers Travis Peyton and Andrew Stevens shared the shutout.
