High school sports roundup for March 25
BASEBALL
Life Christian 7, Mount Tahoma 6: Consistency paid off for the Eagles, who scored runs in six of the eight innings played. The T-Birds held in and scored a tying run at the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra-innings, but Life Christian took charge.
They were led by Nate Jensen, who knocked in 3 RBI’s and was of 2 of 3 from the plate. Michael McKay helped out by going 2 of 5, scoring a run in the process.
Tumwater 7, R.A. Long 6: Keenan Milligan led the T-Birds by going 2 for 4 on the plate he also knocked in three RBI’s. After giving up three runs in the first inning Joseph Brasher settled down and pitched three straight shutout innings, and got the win for Tumwater.
Black Hills 5, Washington 0: Ashton Perry’s first start was sure a memorable one. The sophomore pitched a complete game shutout and only gave up three hits the entire game as the Wolves defeated the Patriots by five runs.
Milo Ames went 1 for 2 and recorded two RBI’s for the Wolves, Ethan Loveless recorded a run and an RBI while going 2 for 3 on the plate.
Eatonville 4, Tenino 3: Joel Rodriguez was lights out for the Cruisers. He went 3 for 3 and got a double as Eatonville edged past Tenino in the final inning.
Auburn Riverside 4, Peninsula 3: All seemed lost for the Ravens as they headed into their final at-bats, down 3-1. They proved that despite some early mistakes, and scored three runs to get the stunning one run walk-off win against the Seahawks.
The Ravens had seven errors to Peninsula’s zero, but still found the will to win. They were led by Dylan Ostler, who was 2 for 3, and recorded two RBI’s. Dylan Davis was also 2 for 3, but hit a home run.
Stadium 9, Bethel 6: The Tigers relied on Luke Norvell’s offensive performance to get -past the Braves. Norvell went 3 for 4 on the plate and recorded four RBI’s for Stadium, who scored runs in each of the first five innings of play.
Tyler Mick was also a contender on the offensive end, he went 3 for 3, scored two runs and recorded 2 RBI’s for the Tigers.
Franklin Pierce 4, Spanaway Lake 1: The Cardinals scored two in the final inning to widen their lead to three runs, which proved to be unreachable for the Sentinels. Paul Ricardo went 1 for 2, scoring a run. Jamar Robinson recorded an RBI and went 1 for 3.
Bellevue 6, Kentlake 2: The Wolverines exploded in the fourth inning, scoring 4 of their six runs. Despite Caleb Jaime’s effort on the mound and plate, where he recorded an RBI, the Falcons lost a tough one on the road.
Charles Wright Academy 11, Foss 2: The Tarriers scored 7 in the fourth to extend their lead from two runs to nine. Henry Lenaberg got the win, he pitched four innings, gave up four hits, and struck out six. Charles Wright scored 11 runs off of eight hits, only committing two errors.
Emerald Ridge 8, Timberline 5: Both teams traded blows in the third inning, scoring three runs each. The Jaguars won the battle in the fourth, outscoring the Blazers 4-1, earning a three run victory.
Kyle Stueckle led a stacked E-R offense with a run and three RBI’s, going 1 for 2 on the plate. Tucker Stroup went 3 for 4 and recorded two RBI’s for the Jags.
Rogers 3, Gig Harbor 0: Troy Johnston went 2 for 3 and scored a run for the Rams as they got past the Tides in the late inning , scoring two runs in the sixth. Blake Denning went 2 for 3 and recorded two RBI’s for Rogers in the win.
W.F. West 6, Olympia 2: Dakota Hawkins dominated the mound for W.F. West. He pitched 4 innings, struck out 5 and commanded his team to a 4-run victory. After giving up two runs - and the lead - in the third, the Bearcat offense came alive in the fourth. They ended the game scoring five unanswered runs, and won the game by four.
Sumner 15, Lakes 1: Nathan Harrell and Tyson Rainwater combined for six RBI’s Friday afternoon as the Spartan offense was in full force. The Lancers didn’t score a until their final at-bats in the fifth inning. Ben Wilson went 2 for 2, scored a run, got a triple, and recorded two RBI’s for Sumner.
SOFTBALL
Bonney Lake 7, Steilacoom 0: Freshman sensation Brooke Nelson pitched her first career no-hitter in just her fourth start for the Panthers. In 42 innings Nelson has struck out 42 batters, giving up one hit. She is maintaining a .32 ERA, but pitching isn’t all she does. Nelson is also the Panther’s three spot hitter and is currently batting .650 on the season.
She went 2 for 3 on the plate against the Sentinels, getting a double and an RBI along the way. Raelyn Kimmel was also 2 for 3, and recorded a double, two runs, and an RBI.
Graham-Kapowsin 6, Curtis 5: The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the seventh and obtained the lead. The Vikings were unable to match in the bottom, and lost a tight 4A South SPSL league match-up.
Curtis opened up the game scoring two runs in both the first and second innings, but didn’t do much after that. Jaime Crawford led the comeback for the Eagles as she went 2 for 4 at the plate. She recorded two runs, two RBI’s and knocked one out of the park.
Jefferson 18, Kentridge 12: Each team managed to get 20 hits in seven innings but it was the Raiders that capitalized on their high-powered offense to get the win. They opened up the game scoring eight runs, from there it was pretty much their game, but the Chargers would not let up.
Kentridge scored in six of the seven innings played, but could not catch up to the lead Jefferson had already built. Isabelle McLarty was the leading Raider as she went 3 of 5 from the plate, with four RBI’s and was a single short of the cycle.
Kentlake 7, Federal Way 3: Maddy Seumalo got it done on the mound and at the plate for the Falcons Friday afternoon, as they busted out a four-run victory over the Eagles in an extra eighth inning.
Seumalo went the distance, pitching all eight innings, she gave up all three runs and struck out eight. But it wasn’t her performance on the mound that caught attention. She went 3 for 4 and recorded 4four RBI’s on the plate. She was also responsible for three Falcon runs.
Puyallup 11, Bethel 0: The Vikings offense was nothing short of dull during the first two innings of their game against the Braves. They scored one run in the first and entered the third with a 1-0 lead. Then it happened.
The Vikings came alive and scored 10 runs in the third to rout the Braves in an SPSL league game. Kennedy Robillard remains undefeated for Puyallup this season (3-0) and Emily Ensrud continues her offensive dominance. Ensrud went 2 for 3 and recorded two RBI’s for the Vikings. Brooklyn Bartleson recorded three RBI’s and was also 2 for 3 on the plate.
Rogers 11, Spanaway Lake 1: The Sentinels entered the second inning with a one point lead, but just as fast as they got it, they lost it.
The Rams went on a tear for the remaining five innings of the game, scoring 11 straight unanswered runs, six in the fourth alone, and defeated the Sentinels by 10 runs. Sasha Killings went 2 for 2 with a home run and 3 RBI’s for Rogers. Kelsey Breer went 2 for 4, with a double, triple, two RBI’s and three stolen bases.
Todd Beamer 11, Kentwood 5: The Titans scored seven runs in the first inning and separated themselves from the Conquerors early. Alex Haven got the win for Beamer. Kenzie Palmer went 2 of 4, with a run and an RBI.
Yelm 3, South Kitsap 2: The Wolves could not hold onto the 2-0 lead they built in the first and seconds innings. The Tornados comeback was due to Nicki Tehan, who drilled a game-winning home run.
