Prep roundup: Jackson Gallagher of Curtis shuts down Spanaway Lake

Curtis 10, Spanaway Lake 0: A sterling pitching performance from Jackson Gallagher shut down Spanaway Lake (2-5, 0-4 4A SPSL South), while a couple of players from Curtis (6-5, 1-3 4A SPSL South) provided all the runs the Vikings would need.
Gallagher was dominant and hushed the bats of Spanaway Lake, allowing only one hit in a five-inning shutout. He struck out four and walked two.
Meanwhile, George Thompson provided plenty of pop for Curtis. He went 2 for 3 with a couple of doubles, with four RBIs.
Kentwood 2, Kentridge 1: A pitchers’ duel took place between Kentwood (11-1, 4-0 4A SPSL Northeast) and Kentridge (6-6, 3-2 4A SPSL Northeast), with the former narrowly emerging victorious.
Kentwood found itself behind by one run in the fifth inning, but took the lead on Shane McGuire’s two-out, two-run triple.
Jordan Jones was the winning pitcher, throwing seven innings and allowing one run. His counterpart, Ajay Bhatallowed just the two runs.
Tumwater 6, Black Hills 5: It was a back-and-forth game between Tumwater (5-3, 1-2 2A Evergreen) and Black Hills (4-6, 1-2 2A Evergreen), but a seventh-inning rally was enough to seal the deal for the T-Birds.
The game winner came courtesy of Jackson Davis’ bat. He jumped on the first pitch he saw, skying it to left field and scoring Noah Sirkel.
That was the cherry on top for Sirkel, who had a big day swinging the bat. He went 2 for 3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Fife 8, White River 0: It was nearly a perfect day for Tanner Knapp of Fife (10-2, 8-0 2A SPSL) as he threw a no-hitter against White River (7-6, 4-3 2A SPSL).
Knapp was dominant, with 11 strikeouts. Only a handful of walks kept him from perfection.
Meanwhile, Kevin Nakamura provided enough some offense. He went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
Orting 8, Washington 1: Orting (3-5, 3-3 2A SPSL) rolled over Washington (2-8, 1-5 2A SPSL) behind the strong pitching performance from Jonathan Thompson.
Thompson delivered five quality innings, allowing a run on three hits and striking out three.
Offensively, Kyle Pennington was pristine for Orting. He went 4 for 4 and scored twice. Darian Lambert also had a nice day, going 2 for 3 with a couple of RBIs and three runs scored.
Gig Harbor 3, Timberline 0: Gig Harbor (10-3, 7-0 4A Narrows) blanked Timberline (7-6, 3-3 4A Narrows) as Drew Gallinger threw 4 ⅓ innings and struck out six.
Jeremy Schnurman and Jon Burghardt both went 2 for 3 with doubles, and Neal Hassan also went 2 for 3.
Kentlake 8, Kent-Meridian 7: A late rally from Kent-Meridian (1-12, 0-6 4A SPSL Northeast) fell just short in its loss to rival Kentlake (5-8, 2-4 4A SPSL Northeast).
Kent-Meridian found itself behind 8-2 in the final inning, but didn’t go down without a fight. The Royals scored five runs before Jayke Chavez finally got the final out to preserve the win.
Chavez and teammate Justin Peterson both had two RBIs.
Sumner 10, Auburn 0: A nearly perfect game by Colton Borg helped Sumner (10-2, 7-0 3A SPSL) topple Auburn (3-9, 1-6 3A SPSL).
Borg allowed only one hit, throwing four innings and striking out seven.
At the plate, Tyson Rainwater went 3 for 3 with a couple of RBIs and a run scored. Jake Gehri went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Dillon O’Grady had Auburn’s lone hit.
Rogers 10, Emerald Ridge 0: In an upset, Rogers (5-7, 2-3 4A SPSL South) took down Emerald Ridge (9-3, 3-1 4A SPSL South) behind strong pitching.
Ayden Ruminski threw five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit with two strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Brandon Jessee delivered at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI, a run and a double.
SOFTBALL
Top performer: Whitley Prater, Steilacoom
3-4, 2 2B, 5 RBI, R
Eatonville 15, Stadium 1: Eatonville (2-7, 2-6 1A Evergreen) dominated Stadium (3-5, 0-3 4A Narrows) in a cross-conference matchup.
For Eatonville, Sierra Burke was electric at the plate. She went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Kylie Kondra chipped in three RBIs.
Stadium’s I. Chapman went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Central Kitsap 6, North Thurston 3: In a tight contest, Central Kitsap (5-2, 4-0 3A Narrows) came away victorious over North Thurston (4-4, 3-1 3A Narrows).
Central Kitsap delivered timely hitting throughout, tallying at least one run in five of the six innings.
Zee Young was at the forefront for Central Kitsap, going 3 for 4 with a double, triple, two RBIs and a run scored.
Hope Lawrence came away as the winning pitcher.
Steilacoom 16, River Ridge 6: Behind a strong offensive effort, Steilacoom (4-2, 2-1 2A SPSL) took down River Ridge (3-3, 1-2 2A SPSL).
Steilacoom jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring 10 runs in the first two innings. Whitley Prater racked up five RBIs on a 3-for-4 day that included two doubles.
Kaitlyn Flugga earned the win for Steilacoom.
GIRLS TENNIS
Top performer: Maddie Schnabel, Spanaway Lake
Defeated her opponent, 6-0, 6-0
Black Hills 3, W.F. West 3: It was about as tight a matchup as possible between Black Hills (5-1, 2-1 2A Evergreen) and W.F. West (5-2, 0-2 2A Evergreen), with the former narrowly edging out the latter on total sets won.
All other matches were decided on straight sets, except the singles match between Black Hills’ Brittany Rycer and W.F. West’s Charlotte Graf.
Graf won the match, but Rycer managed to steal one set from her, giving Black Hills the narrowest of wins.
Emerald Ridge 3, Spanaway Lake 2: It was a hard-fought win for Emerald Ridge (3-1, 2-1 4A SPSL South) over Spanaway Lake (0-6, 0-3 4A SPSL South).
Emerald Ridge won on the strength of its doubles play. The pairings of Harmon/Mattes, Gitchel/Schneidler and Livingston/Zaro all won in straight sets.
Maddie Schnabel performed admirably in Spanaway Lake’s loss, beating her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Puyallup 3, Todd Beamer 2: Another tight SPSL matchup was between Puyallup (4-4, 2-1 4A SPSL South) and Todd Beamer (1-5, 1-1 4A SPSL Central).
The singles matches were split, with Todd Beamer’s Avery Liening and Puyallup’s Jasmine Sunheng winning their matches.
Puyallup pulled ahead in the doubles, winning two of the three matches.
