Prep roundup: Three Wilson pitchers combine on a no-hitter against Foss
BASEBALL
Top performer: Jordan Jones, Kentwood, junior
6 IP, 2 H, 14 K, SO, W.
Wilson 8, Foss 0: Wilson (10-7, 8-4 3A Narrows) pulled off one of the rarest feats in baseball — a combined no hitter — in its win over the Falcons (2-15, 2-10 3A Narrows).
Ethan Denny started and threw five innings, striking out 11 Falcons. Brendan Jones picked it up in the sixth and kept the no-no alive. Logan Jones closed it out by striking out the side.
Wilson jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back. Mark Jones had a 3-for-4 day, with a double, a triple and four RBIs
Peninsula 9, Sumner 7: In a game that has big implications in the standings, the Seahawks (4-12, 4-7 3A SPSL) took down the Spartans (13-3, 10-1 3A SPSL).
Peninsula entered its final inning with a 7-6 lead. The Seahawks managed to tag Sumner for two insurance runs to take a 9-6 lead.
With a last chance, Sumner was able to come up with only a single run.
The loss dropped Sumner into a first-place tie with Bonney Lake, which won Wednesday. It was the first conference loss for the Spartans.
Auburn 11, Auburn Riverside 1: In a battle for Auburn supremacy, the Trojans (5-10, 3-7 3A SPSL) conquered the Ravens (3-14, 3-8 3A SPSL) in a quick and tidy five-inning game.
Aaron Foust was tremendous for Auburn. He threw a complete game, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out seven.
Auburn’s Tony Amoeaulago went 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
The Trojans started their onslaught with a five-run second inning. Six more runs in the fifth pushed them over the 10-run threshold to end the game early.
Central Kitsap 11, Mount Tahoma 0: A strong pitching performance from Matthew Vessey helped the Cougars (16-1, 11-1 3A Narrows) blank the Thunderbirds (1-13, 1-11 3A Narrows).
Vessey gave up four hits over six innings, adding three strikeouts in his complete-game shutout.
Central Kitsap chipped away at Mount Tahoma’s pitching, scoring at least one run in every inning except the first. Eric Halvorson went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Bonney Lake 7, Auburn Mountainview 0: Dominant pitching from starter Zac Horne and late runs were the difference in the win by the Panthers (14-3, 10-1 3A SPSL) over the Lions (9-7, 7-4 3A SPSL).
Horne blanked Auburn Mountainview in a complete game in which he gave up three hits. He struck out seven.
The outcome was in question entering the sixth inning, with Bonney Lake holding 1-0 lead. Three runs in that inning, plus three more in the seventh, were the nails in Auburn Mountainview’s coffin.
With Sumner’s loss on Wednesday, Bonney Lake and the Spartans are tied atop the conference standings.
North Thurston 4, Capital 0: It was pitchers’ duel between Thomas Brice of the Rams (9-9, 9-3 3A Narrows) and Cody Jenkins of the Cougars (10-7, 10-2 3A Narrows), with errors costing Capital, which outhit North Thurston.
North Thurston scored all of its runs in the first inning. Errors contributed to the runs, with Jenkins charged with one earned run out of the four allowed. He gave up two hits and struck out five.
Brice was just as effective, but a stronger defense behind him made the difference. He allowed three hits in the shutout, with six strikeouts.
Kentwood 7, Kent-Meridian: As was the theme of the day, outstanding pitching was the path to victory. This time, it was Jordan Jones of the Conquerors (16-2, 9-1 4A SPSL Northeast) in the driver’s seat of a win over the Royals (2-16, 0-10 4A SPSL Northeast).
Jones threw a masterful game. He gave up two hits over six innings and racked up 14 strikeouts.
Offensively, Shane McGuire popped a solo home run and Alex Yu had a two-RBI double for the Conks.
Gig Harbor 10, Olympia 4: A huge fourth inning from the Tides (13-4, 9-1 4A Narrows) was enough to vault them over the Bears (11-6, 7-5 4A Narrows), giving them more breathing room above Olympia in the standings.
Gig Harbor entered the fourth inning trailing 3-1, but rallied for nine runs to take a commanding lead.
Avery Jones performed well in a relief role. He was credited with the win and Olympia mustered only two hits against him.
Tahoma 8, Kentridge 7: The Bears (13-5, 6-4 4A SPSL Northeast) netted their second consecutive conference win in a tight game against the Chargers (8-10, 5-5 4A SPSL Northeast), despite a late Kentridge rally.
Tahoma was rolling with an 8-0 lead through four innings.
However, the Chargers had comeback on the mind. They scored three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh.
Tahoma found offense from Adam Paganelli, who went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI anda run scored. Henry Murphy chipped in three RBIs and a double.

Bellarmine Prep 13, Stadium 3: The Lions (8-6, 5-3 4A Narrows) needed only five innings to take down the Tigers (4-10, 0-7 4A Narrows), with most of the offense coming in a big third inning.
In that inning, Bellarmine put up nine runs. At the forefront offensively was Haley McMasters, who went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs. She scored twice.
Erica Grenlund went the distance, and allowed three hits with five strikeouts.
Tahoma 13, Federal Way 4: Tahoma (17-0, 15-0 4A SPSL North) continued its winning ways with a big victory over the Eagles (12-4, 12-4 4A SPSL North) as Carley Nance put on a show.
Nance started and tossed seven strong innings. She allowed four runs and struck out nine. At the plate, Nance went 3 for 5 with a home run, a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Federal Way led 4-2, but a flurry of runs from Tahoma in the fourth and fifth innings cemented the Bears as winners.
Yelm 4, Gig Harbor 3: A late run from the Tornadoes (13-2, 8-0 4A Narrows) ended up being the difference.
Yelm scored the first three runs. However, Gig Habor (9-5, 5-2 4A Narrows) struck back and tied it in the fourth with three runs.
The Tornados responded quickly, getting the go-ahead run in the fifth.
Yelm’s Jordan Adams went seven innings and yielded the three runs. She struck out 11.
