Track and field: Tumwater’s Foos climbs in 2A rankings in two races

Bella Foos may have been No. 3 twice on Saturday, but she’s No. 1 twice on Sunday.

The Tumwater junior took third in both the 200-meter dash (26.02 seconds) and 400 (59.3) on Saturday at the 56th annual Shelton Invitational track and field meet. Those personal-best marks propelled her to No. 1 in the area in both events.

Her 200 time moves her to the fifth-ranked sprinter in the state in the 2A classification, while her 400 mark is currently ranked third. She’s also the first girl in the area to break one minute in the 400 this season.

Yelm set new area bests in both of the girls sprinting relays. The four-runner combination of Rheese Dolgash, Valeria Morales, Taeler Nilles and Kendahl Powell won both the 4x100 (50.68) and 4x200 (1:48.08) relays on Friday at Olympia High School. Their 4x100 mark is the second-best time in school history.

Three other relay teams from the area also set new No. 1 marks.

Capital’s 4x100 boys squad of Tim Fisher, Zach Smith, Jason Turner and Willie Broxton broke their own school record from 10 days earlier at the Shelton Invitational. They ran a 43.64 — 0.09 seconds faster than their previous record — which ties them for seventh in the 3A rankings.

The North Thurston boys 4x400 set the second-best time in school history at the Shelton Invitational. Anthony Salazar, Jacob Rowland, Ryan Joiner and Ross Sherrer posted a 3:31.9, taking seventh place. That time is 0.9 seconds off of the school record, set in 1981.

Emma Hatton, Frances Brown, Maia Halvorson and Sidney Nicholson from Olympia combined for a season-best 4:12.98 in the girls 4x400 to take sixth at the Shelton Invitational and set a new area best.

Olympia’s Kiersten Kimminau also reset her own area best in the 1,600 at the Shelton Invitational with a 5:18.39. She took fourth. Kimminau’s former teammate at Northwest Christian, Eliana Summers, also set a new area best in the 3,200 at the Shelton Invitational, posting a 11:44.15. Her mark is the fourth-best in 2B.

Shelton’s Colton Paller improved his own area-best mark in the discus at the Shelton Invitational. He took second in the event, and posted a throw of 156 feet, five inches to improve to fifth in 3A.

Gabe Adamson from Black Hills overthrew Rainier’s Brayden Lasher and Shelton’s Cody Simon as the top boys pole vaulter in the area at the Shelton Invitational. He jumped a personal-best 14-0, improving on his previous personal-best mark by one foot. He is tied for fourth in the 2A rankings. That jump was also the second best in school history.
