Prep baseball roundup: Sumner sinks Bonney Lake, 9-4, for fifth seed at state

3A West Central/Southwest Tournament
Sumner 9, Bonney Lake 4: The Spartan (17-6) offense was efficient scoring in all but one inning against their win over the Panthers (19-5).
Taurus Kukahiko was a catalyst in the Sumner offense. Kukahiko was 2 for 3, drove in a run, and scored two runs for his team. Nathan Harrell helped his team by hitting a solo home run.
Sumner picks up the fifth seed in the state tournament. The Spartans take on Eastside Catholic on Saturday May 21. The game takes place at Bannerwood Park at 10 a.m.
Bonney Lake receives the sixth seed in the state tournament. The Panthers play at Curtis High School, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
Columbia River 3, Enumclaw 0: A pair of Chieftains (18-5) teamed up to shut down the Hornets (12-9) offense to three hits.
Dakota Mason and Nick Nygard combined to pitch a shutout. Mason started and pitched four innings, allowing two hits while striking out a pair. Nygard came on in relief giving up a hit and striking out two. The Chieftain offense supplied two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to secure victory.
Enumclaw is the fourth seed in the state tournament. The Hornets take on Lake Washington at Curtis High School. The game starts at 10 a.m.
2A Southwest District 4 Tournament
Centralia 7, Black Hills 4: The Wolves (10-13) scored four runs in the first inning, but the Tigers (13-11) came back to pick up the victory.
The Tigers scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to put themselves up by three. lead the way offensively for the Tigers driving in three runs on a 3 for 4 day at the plate. Christian Peters had a nice day going 2 for 3 and scoring two runs.
Black Hills season comes to an end with this loss.
Sequim 6, River Ridge 2: The Wolves scored early runs and coasted in its win over the Hawks that places them in the district championship game.
Their early lead came on three runs in the first inning and another in the second. River Ridge was only able to scatter three hits and couldn’t muster the offense for a comeback.
River Ridge goes to state as a four seed, where they will play W.F. West. The game takes place on May 21, at 1 p.m. at Wheeler field in Centralia.
W.F. West 13, Tumwater 0: Brandon White made short work of the Thunderbird (12-8) hitters as he lead his Bearcats (16-6) to victory.
White pitched a complete game one hitter while striking out 3 hitters. White got help offensively from Brody Holcomb and Kolby Steen. Holcomb and Steen combined for six RBI’s, each driving in three.
Tumwater takes second place in the Southwest District Tournament. The Thunderbirds play their first round of state on May 21, at 1 p.m. at Franklin Pierce.
1A West Central District 3 Tournament
Vashon 10, Seattle Christian 4: Vashon’s Logan Hawkins had a huge day in a win-or-go-home game between the Pirates (16-5) and the Warriors,(12-10) leading his squad to victory.
He drove in four of Vashon’s ten runs on a 2 for 4 day, matching Seattle Christian’s output alone.
The Pirates led 6-0 after two innings and rode that lead to victory. They advance to the state tournament where they play the second seed from district 1/2 at Castle Rock High School on May 21.
Seattle Christian’s season ends with this loss.
