Two goals and an assist in a 3-1 win over Wilson
4A West Central
Bellarmine 3, Mount Rainier 0: A brace from Jordan Williams and a goal from Robert Nurmi were the difference as the Lions blanked Rams to take third in the district.
Mount Rainier still makes it to the state tournament with a fourth-place district finish. Bellarmine tops them, finishing third. The Lions will play Snohomish, while the Rams will play Pasco.
Kentwood 2, Kentridge 1: A two-goal performance from Chris Goebel led the Conquerors to victory over the Chargers and to second place in the district.
Kentridge’s goal from Jake Zielke wasn’t enough, and the Chargers finished the district tournament fifth.
The Conks are scheduled to play Wenatchee at the 4A state tournament. The Chargers will play Tahoma.
3A West Central/Southwest
Auburn Riverside 3, Wilson 1: Entering halftime trailing Wilson, Auburn Riverside’s Brandon Gonzalez told coach Robyn Saarenas that he wanted to take the game over.
He did just that in a massive second-half effort that led the Ravens (14-3-0 3A SPSL) to victory. Starting in the 50th minute, he put home an impressive volley.
“I’ve watched Brandon score a lot of goals, but (that) was the best I’ve ever seen,” Saarenas said. “It was a nice volley. He hit it nice and low and level.”
Gonzalez scored again five minutes later, then assisted on a goal by Trent Miller.
The Lions got a fourth-place district finish for their efforts. They will play Edmonds-Woodway.
Wilson’s season (10-6-0 3A Narrows) ended.
Sumner 2, Central Kitsap 1 (PKs): The Spartans (11-4-1 3A SPSL) managed to take down the Cougars (10-4-2 3A Narrows), winning in a shootout.
Central Kitsap drew first blood with a goal from Jaeger Skifstad in the 12th minute. In the 44th minute, Sumner tied the game on Alex LaBarge’s goal.
Sumner dominated the shootout, 4 to 1.
Sumner will head to the state tournament with a fifth-place district finish, while Central Kitsap’s season ended. Sumner will play Glacier Peak.
2A West Central/SeaKing
Liberty 2, Franklin Pierce 0: With their season on the line, the Cardinals were not able to handle the Patriots.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce’s strong season (11-4-1 2A SPSL) ended. Liberty (4-8-4 2A Seamount) advanced to state with a fourth-place finish.
