Season stalls at 3A district tournament for Shelton, Capital

The road to the Class 3A state tournament ended at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma for the Shelton High School softball team.

The Highclimbers lost to Bonney Lake, 5-3, in a loser-out consolation game in the Class 3A West Centra/Southwest bi-district tournament on Monday.

Bonney Lake’s Brooke Nelson allowed only four hits in the win. Shelton’s Natalie Albaugh took the loss.

Shelton put up one run in the top of the first inning, but that was the only time the Highclimbers led. Aurora Gouley went 2 for 3 with a triple and run scored.

Bonney Lake put up two runs in the bottom of the first, and tacked on one apiece in the third, fourth and fifth innings to knot the win. Shelton added another two runs in the sixth, but were held scoreless in the seventh to stall any chance of a comeback.

Central Kitsap 18, Capital 2: Central Kitsap routed Capital in a bi-district consolation game to knock the Cougars out of the playoffs. Central Kitsap’s season ended two games later in a winner-to-state game against Kelso.

No teams from the 3A Narrows League advanced to the state tournament.
