Report: Mariners interviewing Toronto assistant for GM opening

SEATTLE —Toronto special assistant Dana Brown will be interviewed Wednesday by the Mariners for their vacant general manager job, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.

There was no confirmation from the Mariners.

Club president Kevin Mather, who is conducting the search, sent word through club officials that he is unwilling to comment or provide any updates on the process.

Brown is in his sixth season in Toronto as a special assistant to general manager Alex Anthopoulos. Before that, Brown spent eight seasons as director of scouting for the Montreal/Washington franchise.

Previous reports said the Mariners show interest in former Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto and have received permission from the Yankees to tall with assistant general manager Billy Eppler.

Several other former general managers have been linked to the vacancy.
