Seahawks bring back Mike Morgan as potential replacement for departed Bruce Irvin

The Seahawks have brought back another of their own -- as insurance for the replacement plan at linebacker.

Seattle re-signed Mike Morgan on Saturday. The five-year veteran outside linebacker and special-teams mainstay has played for coach Pete Carroll since 2006, first at USC and since 2011 with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.

Morgan made two of his three NFL starts last season when strongside linebacker Bruce Irvin was injured. Irvin, also a rush end, left this month in free agency to Oakland.

The Seahawks drafted Kevin Pierre-Louis in the fourth round in 2014 as a potential, eventual replacement for Irvin. But the speedy linebacker has been slowed by injuries. Tellingly it was Morgan, not Pierre-Louis, who filled in when Irvin was hurt in 2015.
