Rookie 2nd-round pick Jarran Reed leaves practice with lower-leg injury, tweets he’s fine
RENTON Rookie second-round draft choice Jarran Reed, making a bid to be the Seahawks’ new starting defensive tackle, got his lower left leg stepped on during a pass-rush drill and missed the final half of Wednesday’s training-camp practice.
Reed sat and winced for a couple minutes while trainers and teammates Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril and Jordan Hill came to his side. Hill, a fourth-year veteran, is out injured himself with a groin strain. He began camp ahead of Reed as the starter replacing for departed defensive tackle Brandon Mebane as Seattle’s run-stopping core guy.

Defensive coordinator Kris Richard said immediately after practice he was not yet sure how injured Reed was or where the pain specifically was. Reed eventually left the field sitting up in the passenger seat of a motorized cart. The former Alabama standout limped a few yards before boarding the cart.

But about two hours after practice ended Reed tweeted he was OK:

Preseason games such as the first one for the Seahawks on Saturday afternoon at Kansas City will be a prime chance for Reed to earn a starting job. But for now it’s iffy is the rookie will be able to play. I wouldn’t sound any alarms just yet about Reed; it’s still only Aug. 10 and there are three more exhibition games after the one against the Chiefs. The second one is next Thursday in Seattle against Minnesota.
Justin Hamilton, a second-year free agent (6 feet 2, 315 pounds) from Louisiana-Lafayette was the first-team tackle next to Ahtyba Rubin for the last half of practice Wednesday.
