Pappa: Final set piece a team effort

We had gotten some time with Brad Evans after he got the game-tying assist Sunday against LA, and with Chad Barrett who got the winning goal. But it wasn’t until today that I managed to get some time with the man who’s corner kick started it all: midfielder Marco Pappa:

On that final play: It was a team effort. We were pushing, looking for the opportunity to score. In that way, we got the corner kick, the set piece on which we scored. I think that was a good mentality by the team. We wanted to win the game at home, but we got a good point. I’m sure that point is going to be real important for us.

On whether he was aiming for Evans, or aiming for a spot: We train on that play sometimes. The ball has to go to the first post. I was trying to find Brad, trying to hit it with good pace. Anything can happen when the ball goes harder and faster, so that was pretty much my intention when I hit the ball.

On if he likes starting the set pieces: I’ve been making those set pieces. There are a lot of good players on this team who can also make the set pieces. It’s always really important to get the goals on set pieces. I remember also scoring a set pieces goal last season in Dallas in the playoffs. They can help you out a lot.
