Sounders FC had an event at the CenturyLink Field Pro Shop tonight with their new primary and alternate jerseys going on sale to the public and being modeled by several Sounders. Goalkeeper Stefan Frei wore a T-shirt of his own creation.

“It’s more my stye: abstract, geometric kinds of shapes and stuff,” Frei explained. “I kind of started out by jotting down some lines ... and then it’s mainly the process of elimnination of those lines to try to come up with some geometric shapes, some funky thing, piecing them together, put some color into it, and then just make it a bit more unique.”

Frei said he also was impressed with the alternate Pacific blue kits to be worn by his teammates.

“I love it,” he said. “It’s so unique, so different. It’s really, really cool. ... I think the fans will probably love having the completely different jersey.”

Early signs indicated he’s right about that. There was a long line outside the stadium in advance of the 6 p.m. door-opening, and afterward lots of new Sounders merchandise seemed to be gobbled up.
