Copa America trophy making rounds in Seattle

The Seattle Sounders trained at CenturyLink Field today, and gleaming off to the side of the pitch was the Copa America Centenario trophy.

Soccer fans around the area will have several chances to get their own look over the next couple of days. Public viewing opportunities will be 10:30-11:20 a.m. Friday at Pike Place Market; 10-11 a.m. Saturday at MOHAI; 11-noon Saturday at the UW Windemere Cup competition; 4:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday at The Ninety at the Sounders’ downtown offices, and 5:45 p.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at Occidental Park before the March to the Match.

Meanwhile, six Sounders are on their nations’ provisional rosters for the competition: Clint Dempsey, Jordan Morris, Brad Evans (USA), Nelson Valdez (Paraguay), Oniel Fisher (Jamacia) and Roman Torres (Panama).

Torres remains unable to play due while working his way back from a knee injury, but he will serve as honorary captain for his homeland which continuing his rehab.

“As we work out the details, we’ll figure that out at that point,” Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said. “I know he’s very conscientious. I know he’s very proud that they named him as an honorary captain, but he’s also very conscientious about his training. There will be some give and take.”
