Lewis County 911 down for landline users, officials say

Update: Dispatch reports the issue was resolved at about 10 p.m. Wednesday.

CenturyLink reported to local officials Wednesday afternoon that a “major fiber optic line” was cut between Olympia and Centralia, causing 911 outages in Lewis County.

Lewis County 911 Communications wrote on its Facebook page just after 6 p.m. that the outage is prohibiting landline phones from contacting emergency services. Wireless lines do not appear to be affected, the post says.

Landline calls in Lewis County are being routed through the back-up call center in Thurston County, the post says, and those calls reach emergency responders in Lewis County through their business lines.

The Riverside Fire Authority in Centralia asks the public to attempt 911 in an emergency, but try its headquarters if there is no answer at 360-736-3975.

The line is expected to be repaired within eight hours, Lewis County 911 Communications wrote in its post.
