A student at Salish Middle School in Lacey was hospitalized Wednesday after falling from the second floor into the commons area.

The Lacey Fire Department was dispatched to the school just before 1 p.m., and treated the student on site. He was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia with serious injuries, the department confirmed.

North Thurston Public Schools spokeswoman Courtney Schrieve said no other students were involved in the incident.

The school district sent out a communication to parents offering support to students. Schrieve said many students witnessed the event, which occurred during lunch.

“Our thoughts go out to the student who was hurt and their family, as well as the entire Salish community,” she wrote. “Their community really pulled together to support one another and counseling support will continue at the school for whoever needs it.”
