Cinemark — which has theaters at Capital Mall in Olympia, and in Tacoma and Federal Way — has rolled out Movie Club, a subscription discount service. Members can buy a movie ticket a month for $8.99 and any unused tickets roll over at the end of the month.

Cinemark is one of the biggest movie chains in the country with nearly 350 theaters. Mark Zoradi, CEO of Cinemark, told CNNMoney the club is geared toward millennials who are used to paying monthly fees for things like Netflix, Amazon and Spotify.

The offer comes as Hollywood is in the midst of a major slump. Variety reports this summer’s box office was the worst the movie industry has seen in more than a decade.

The Los Angeles Times reports Cinemark’s move is a response to MoviePass, a new start-up that offers unlimited movies in theaters for $9.95 a month.
