Tenino, is that you?

Downtown Tenino was to be transported back to the 1950s Friday evening for a movie shoot. The crew also planned to be in Bucoda starting late Friday afternoon.

Tenino Mayor Wayne Fournier said Old Highway 99 and Sussex Avenue would close at 6 p.m. for filming of the movie “The Mountain” starring Jeff Goldblum.

Earlier this month a call went out for classic cars from the 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s in Tenino, Forks and Bellingham to be in the movie. Filming also took place in upstate New York.

“They take little bits of Forks and little bits of Bucoda and Tenino and make it look like one continuous place,” Fournier said. “They might say this sign looks too 1990s so they might take it down, or they might say this window or this color doesn’t work and repaint it.”

In Bucoda, they planned to film on the street in front of Joe’s Place, said Joe’s manager Kristin Butterworth. The tavern will be in the background of the shot, and customers Friday evening will be asked to stay in the back of the building.

Butterworth said Joe’s was approached a few months ago about filming there.

“We’re definitely old — you walk in here and it’s like stepping back in time,” Butterworth said. “We’re just tickled pink.”
