Semi crashes and catches fire on I-5
The driver of a semi trailer-truck struck a median jersey barrier on Interstate 5 near milepost 63, about 13 miles south of Chehalis, at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the 39-year-old truck driver from Kent lost control in the snow in the northbound lanes. After striking the barrier, the truck came to rest in the median and caught on fire.
The driver was injured but not transported to the hospital from the scene. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
The 2013 Freightliner semi with loaded box trailer was totaled and impounded. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash, the State Patrol said.
