    During a July 13th work session at the Billy Frank Community Center volunteer Elizabeth John Vantiem finishes a lightweight shawl which will be worn by a ceremonial dancer as the Nisqually tribe prepares to host the 2016 Paddle to Nisqually. The week-long celebration begins with the July 30th canoe landing at the Port of Olympia with numerous events scheduled including a ceremony Sunday July 31st at the Billy Frank Jr. National Wildlife Refuge to recognize the Medicine Creek Treaty.A tribal fisherman herself, Elizabeth will leave Tuesday for the Lummi reservation to participate as a Nisqually tribal canoe team member on the journey.

    Dozens of volunteers gathered at Lacey's Woodland Creek Community Park Monday morning for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service project and which was again coordinated by the City of Lacey and the Stream Team organization.
