Mason County deputies will patrol for distracted drivers as part of a “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” campaign from Thursday through Monday.

Distracted driving is a growing and deadly threat, according to a Mason County Sheriff’s Office news release. The agency is teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the campaign.

Washington drivers can be fined as much as $136 for distracted driving.
