Carnival Cruise Line opens new pool area at exclusive Roatán port
Just in time for the summer cruise season, Carnival Cruise Line is now offering an enhanced resort-style experience at its exclusive destination on the island of Roatán off the coast of Honduras.
Formerly known as Mahogany Bay and now rebranded as Isla Tropicale, the 24-acre port has long centered around Roatán's natural beauty. The destination's pristine, eco-friendly beach earned the Honduras Blue Flag Award and a five-star rating in 2024 and 2025 for excellence in environmental management, water quality, safety, accessibility, and sustainable tourism.
Now, in addition to experiencing that award-winning beach and shore excursions that showcase Roatán's nature, wildlife, and culture, Carnival passengers cruising to Isla Tropicale can enjoy a brand-new, resort-style pool area at no extra charge.

Mangrove Bay at Isla Tropicale features pool, splash pad, and swim-up bar
The newly opened Mangrove Bay pool area expands cruise passengers' options for things to do at Isla Tropicale with 48,000 square feet of recreational space, including a splash pad for kids and a swim-up bar and adjacent bar service for adults.
With this addition, vacationers can now choose to spend their day at Isla Tropicale lounging poolside or relaxing on its white-sand beach - or hopping between the two areas. Like the beach area, the pool area and surrounding loungers are complimentary for Carnival passengers.

Those who want to upgrade their relaxation at Mangrove Bay can reserve a shaded cabana perched on a peninsula in the center of the pool or a poolside daybed. Cabanas and daybeds are available to rent as excursion packages that also include passes for the destination's scenic chairlift ride.
Other Isla Tropicale highlights include a nature trail, 52 shops, local artisan kiosks, three restaurants, four bars, and oceanview cabanas. Vacationers can cruise to Isla Tropicale on a wide range of Carnival's Western Caribbean cruise itineraries, including sailings on Carnival's newest Excel-class cruise ships.
Isla Tropicale upgrade is part of larger investment in Paradise Collection destinations
Carnival's investment in expanding Isla Tropicale's offerings underscores the cruise line's commitment to enhancing its Paradise Collection destination experiences to benefit passengers and local communities in the Caribbean.
"Isla Tropicale marks another exciting investment in the largest group of exclusive cruise destinations, Paradise Collection by Carnival," Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said in a press release. "New features, including the destination's first pool area, will elevate the guest experience at Isla Tropicale. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Roatán and Honduras and expanding our positive economic impact in the region."
Since opening in 2009 as Mahogany Bay, Isla Tropicale has represented a $93 million investment in Roatán, welcomed close to nine million visitors, and generated $750 million in economic impact, supporting more than 1,300 local jobs.

The debut of Isla Tropicale's pool area comes less than one year after Carnival opened Celebration Key, a $600 million exclusive resort destination in The Bahamas that pairs a picturesque Grand Bahama beach with two expansive lagoon pools.
Additionally, Carnival is set to soon open a new pier at passenger-favorite RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay in The Bahamas that will allow ships to dock at the island for the first time. Instead of shuttling passengers to shore via tender boats, Carnival ships will dock at the newly-constructed pier on the north side of the island that's able to accommodate the cruise line's largest ships.
To complement the new pier, a refreshed island experience will feature a new tram service, expanded beachside lounge areas, new lunch venues and bars, and more. The south side of the island, where sister cruise line Holland America has long visited, is also being enhanced to elevate relaxation in a way that preserves the island's unspoiled charm.
