This goofy video (and this story) will tell you what NOT to do on the Fourth of July
With the Fourth of July coming up, the city of Olympia wants you to remember this: Fireworks are banned in Olympia, fireworks are banned. Fireworks are banned in Olympia, fireworks are banned.
They’ve even made a video with a catchy tune to help you remember.
But, Olympia isn’t the only local jurisdiction where fireworks are banned. They’re not allowed in Lacey, either. And, this is the last year they’ll be allowed in Tumwater, thanks to a measure adopted by voters last year.
Tumwater already has some regulations in place. Only “safe and sane” fireworks may be lit within city limits, and fireworks are only allowed July 3 and 4 from 3-11 p.m. People who violate these rules can be charged with misdemeanors and fined up to $1,000.
To enjoy a professional fireworks show in Tumwater, attend the Artesian Family Festival and Thunder Valley Fireworks Show. The event is hosted at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course and Driving Range. Gates open for the festival at 6 p.m., and the fireworks show begins at 10:15 p.m. The event is free, but parking is $10 per car.
Lacey offers a fireworks show a day early. The 51st Annual Fireworks Spectacular and Freedom Concert from 4-11 p.m. on Monday, July 3. The free event takes place at Rainier Vista Community Park, 5475 45th Ave SE.
Weather conditions are such that fireworks will be allowed in unincorporated Thurston County this Fourth of July. Last summer, the Board of County Commissioners approved a measure allowing county to ban fireworks during periods of extreme fire danger.
Luckily, it rained enough this winter that you can light as many fireworks as you want (provided you follow the law).
The law mandates this for Thurston County: The discharge of consumer fireworks is permitted 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 3 and July 4 only.
