A 47-year-old Alaska man has been identified as a “person of interest” in connection to a bank robbery that took place Thursday afternoon in Elma, a police sergeant said Sunday.

The man was booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail on an unrelated felony warrant, but based on some evidence and his criminal history, he might be the bank robbery suspect, Sgt. Ryan Cristelli said Sunday.

An Anchor Bank branch at 216 S. Third Street was robbed at gunpoint at 4:45 p.m. Thursday. The man fled the bank on foot; a K9 track was unsuccessful.

About 8:50 p.m., a resident called 911 to report a suspicious person, which led police to the person of interest.

Police are still working to identify the bank robbery suspect, Cristelli said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Elma police at 360-482-3131.
