Lakewood man was source of bomb threat in Lewis County, Sheriff’s Office says

A 22-year-old Lakewood man has been identified as the source of a bomb threat made to the Lewis County Law and Justice Center in Chehalis earlier this month.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that charges are being referred to the county prosecutor. The man could face felony charges for threats to bomb or damage property in connection to the incident on the morning of Dec. 18, according to a news release.

After the threat that morning, The Olympian reported The Law and Justice Center on West Main Street, which also houses the county’s district and superior courts and the Sheriff’s Office, was evacuated along with other county offices in the area.

The county jail, also in the Law and Justice Center, was put on lockdown. After the Washington State Patrol bomb squad checked for explosives, the buildings were reopened that afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office discovered a connection between the phone number used to make the call and the Lakewood man. Detectives initially couldn’t find the suspect because he had been arrested on an unrelated matter. After they interviewed him, he allegedly admitted to making the threat.

Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said Thursday that the 22-year-old is being held in the Nisqually Jail on the unrelated warrant.
