Providence St. Peter, Centralia reach tentative agreements with nurses’ union
Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia and Providence Centralia Hospital have reached tentative agreements with UFCW, the union that represents nurses at the two hospitals, Providence announced Friday.
In October, nurses at St. Peter voted to authorize a strike after they voted down a contract proposal over the summer that would have changed the way they get paid time off, The Olympian previously reported. Sticking points also included pay increases and staffing levels.
The St. Peter nurses voted to authorize a strike followed similar votes at other Providence hospitals around the state, including hospitals in Spokane, Centralia, Walla Walla, and Everett. Centralia nurses also voted to authorize a strike in October, The Chronicle reported.
Last Friday, St. Peter nurses put the possibility of a strike on hold after overnight talks with hospital management.
Members will vote on the tentative agreements soon, Providence says. Details of the agreements between UFCW — which represents about 1,200 nurses at St. Peter and more than 270 nurses in Centralia — and the hospitals won’t be released until the agreements are ratified by the nurses.
