Second-hand crafts store expands, coffee retailer set to open new store in Tumwater
Michelle Isaacson, who has had an interest in crafts since she was a girl, struck on an idea: What if she could open a second-hand crafts store that would offer customers the same materials but at a reasonable price?
She pitched it to her husband — the two of them had previously talked about opening a used bookstore — and his reply was immediate: “Let’s do it.”
So began Lost & Found Crafts in Olympia in May 2019. The business started in a little office at 2316 Fourth Ave. E., but now it occupies most of the second floor at that address after more than a year of growth.
The business sells mostly second-hand craft materials, but also has some new items, Isaacson said. Among the items for sale: yarn, quilting fabric, beads, sewing supplies, thread, zippers, elastic, patterns, cards and materials for scrapbooking, paper, rubber stamps, hand-dyed wool and other items.
A donation of used materials to the store yields a 10-percent-off coupon, she said.
Isaacson used to teach in-person crafting classes before the pandemic. Now, those classes take place online as a Facebook live event.
Lost & Found Crafts is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. The business offers curbside and online pickup and will deliver in Thurston County for a $3 fee, Isaacson said.
Other business happenings
Starbucks — which already has two locations in Tumwater with a drive-through, at Capitol Boulevard and Trosper Road and at the historic grange at Yelm Highway and Henderson Boulevard — is now opening a third store with a drive-through at Cleveland Avenue, just south of Safeway, Tumwater permit manager Chris Carlson said.
The 3,000-square-foot store will occupy a former Key Bank site that has sat vacant for many years, Carlson said.
