Details emerge for second multifamily development on Lacey’s Hicks Lake

Details were released this week for a second multifamily development proposal for Hicks Lake in Lacey.

According to a notice of application submitted to the city, Tukwila-based Schneider Homes LLC proposes to build a 178-unit, three-building apartment complex on the west side of the lake at 2712 Hazelwood Lane SE.

The project is proposed to have two recreational structures, 293 parking stalls (surface and underground parking), an in-ground pool and spa, as well as a pier and floating dock, according to city information.

The development plan is likely to further stoke concerns in the area because a number of residents already were worried about a similar proposal in the 2800 block of Hazelwood Lane Southeast. That proposal, pitched in March to the city, is for 132 apartment units.

Both development proposals are expected to come before the Lacey hearings examiner.

The Schneider Homes’ application was deemed complete on June 11 and the comment period ends at 5 p.m. July 15. To comment on the proposal, send an email to Lacey senior planner Samra Seymour at Sseymour@ci.lacey.wa.us.
