Dog groomer opens in Tumwater and a new hotel is being built near I-5 in Olympia
Three former Pet Smart employees have turned their pet grooming experience into a business of their own called Fur Street Grooming at the Southgate Shopping Center in Tumwater.
Co-owners Kathleen Anderson, Alexis Bennett and Gabriel Wylder met at the Pet Smart in Lacey, said Bennett, who worked for Pet Smart for 18 years — nine years in Las Vegas and nine more in Lacey, she said.
The three owners combined have more than 40 years of grooming experience.
Fur Street Grooming opened Sept. 15 and already is booked through the second week of January, Bennett said. The business primarily grooms dogs, but will do cats on a case-by-case basis, she said.
Fur Street’s current hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, but next year the business will shift to Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Fur Street Grooming is at 5109 Capitol Blvd. SE, Suite C.
Other business happenings
Claire’s Filipino Food, a fledgling restaurant on Harrison Avenue in west Olympia, has decided to pause its soft opening, according to a post on Facebook.
“Hello Olympia and beyond! After a busy few weekends, we’ve decided to pause our soft opening,” the post reads. “The current makeshift prep area is tight and we’ve heard our customers loud and clear: be open more days/hours, serve more folks at one time, and please, give us a more varied menu!”
The business says it will open as soon as it can in 2022. In the interim, according to the post, it plans to install a large commercial kitchen in the back, add a customer bathroom, phase in dine-in seating, explore options to add outdoor seating, provide bike parking, be open more days and more hours, and offer a full menu.
“We hope you follow us on our journey to open the full-fledged restaurant that we’ve been dreaming about for the past 12 years,” the post reads.
In the works
According to city of Olympia information, a number of new commercial projects are either underway or have been proposed.
They are:
▪ Courtyard Hotel, 2301 Henderson Park Lane SE; a 64,534-square-foot, four-story hotel is under construction next to the Hilton Garden Inn.
▪ Tommy’s Car Wash, 3000 Harrison Ave NW; an existing bank building is being demolished and the 3,826-square-foot site will be redeveloped as an express car wash facility.
▪ Spoon automotive building, 118 Cherry St. NE; the commercial space will be converted to a small brewery, tasting room and restaurant.
▪ A 1,330-square-foot addition will be built on the south side of the Obee Credit Union building at 400 Cooper Point Road SW for a Mod Pizza Restaurant.
