Gun found near Mountain View Elementary School in Lacey Friday morning, police say
A handgun was recovered Friday morning near Mountain View Elementary School, Lacey police say.
A student found the weapon outside the fenced area of the school playground, and then the gun was handed over to a School Resource Officer, Lacey Police Sgt. Jeremy Knight said Sunday.
Mountain View is on College Street Southeast at 22nd Avenue in central Lacey.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the gun was found unloaded or was unloaded by the SRO, Knight said.
Police are now checking whether the gun is connected to a crime that was committed earlier in the week.
Knight said the gun is the same caliber of gun that was fired in the 5000 block of 18th Avenue Southeast during a domestic violence incident Monday evening.
That address is near the school, which has a large playground. It parallels 22nd Avenue as well as a series of neighborhoods to the east.
