1 injured and arrested, 1 still at large after shootout in south Thurston County, sheriff says
One person is in custody on a number of gun-related crimes after a shootout in the Grand Mound area on Saturday night.
Sheriff Derek Sanders said the incident was initially reported as a drive-by shooting, but it turned out to be a shootout between two people who knew each other, one of them possibly under the age of 18. He said what led to the shooting was a convoluted story involving family members.
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and Chehalis Tribal Police responded at around 11 p.m. Saturday night to the incident near 201st Avenue Southwest in Grand Mound.
He said one of the two young men involved was shot and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Sanders said the man was subsequently arrested and placed in custody for a slew of gun-related crimes, including alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and attempted first-degree assault.
The other suspect is still at large, and the shooting is still under investigation, Sanders said.
