Bailey’s Motor Inn, the former Olympia hotel and lounge that has been inactive since 2013, burst into flames Thursday night, an Olympia Fire official said.

A little after 9 p.m., Olympia and Lacey fire crews were dispatched to the previously burned and dilapidated structure after several people in the area called 911 to report a fire.

The east side of the building was on fire when fire crews arrived, Olympia Deputy Fire Chief Greg Wright said.

Wright said Martin Way between Ensign Road and Lilly Road would be closed for the next two hours.

The fire was largely extinguished about 10 p.m., but crews would need time to check hot spots and clean up, he said.

About 35 firefighters were on scene Thursday night, he said.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known, although Wright said work had recently taken place on the property to prepare it for demolition.

The Olympia City Council last week approved an agreement that will pave the way for a new development at the troubled site, 3333 Martin Way E.

Under the agreement, the property owner Fortis Development must demolish all buildings on the site within 90 days.

Fire also damaged Bailey’s in June.
