Despite an officer involved shooting, readers still gravitated to weather over crime, making it last week’s most read story.
1. Weather updates and closures for Monday, Jan. 4: A trace amount of snow had everyone checking our list of weather-related closures.
2. Man shot by Thurston County Sheriff’s deputy identified: Joel Anthony Nelson, 29, of Lacey, was shot during an altercation with a deputy. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Nelson had punched the deputy in the face, stole the deputy’s SUV and crashed the vehicle into a passing car.
3. Thurston County deputy fatally shoots suspect who stole SUV: The suspect then got into the deputy’s SUV and took off, with the deputy on the running board. The SUV rammed a white passenger car, and the driver sustained minor injuries. When the deputy realized the suspect was putting others in danger, he shot the suspect in the chest, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

5. Winter weather advisory in effect for Olympia area: One to two inches of snow fell in the Olympia area last Sunday.
