Mom won’t go to prison after a dog ate her 8-month-old daughter, Arizona cops say

An Arizona mom won’t get prison time for felony endangerment after her 8-month-old daughter died from injuries from a dog, Tucson police said.

Breanna Henson was sentenced to a year of probation on Jan. 27, according to 19 News. She agreed to a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to a felony charge of endangerment in Dec. 2019, The Associated Press reported.

Henson was arrested on Jan. 24, 2019, after police found her infant daughter Patricia “unresponsive with significant trauma,” The Arizona Daily Star reported. Police said Henson was intoxicated and the only adult in the house. She was charged with one felony count of child abuse.

Patricia was pronounced dead and “had puncture wounds and scratches possibly caused by a dog,” Tucson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Pete Dugan said.

The dog, an 11-year-old German shepherd mix, was taken from Henson’s home and euthanized on March 26, 2019, KOLD News 13 reported.

According to the autopsy report, Patricia had “abrasions, lacerations, contusions, and puncture wounds.” She was also missing portions of her left brain.

The dog’s stomach contents had “human infant teeth and skeletal fragments,” the report said.
